Consultation

Rigorous consultation and resident engagement has underpinned every major decision about the Canada Water regeneration so far.

Residents were heavily involved in selecting BL Canada Quays as the master development partner, and the BL Canada Quays master plan underwent extensive consultation and refinement as a result of community feedback.  It received a thumbs up from 75% of the community.

BL Canada Quays followed the same process with their outline design for sites A and B.  The consultation with the local community involved over 200 individual meetings and stakeholder workshops including workshops, public open sessions, exhibitions, schools tours, public meetings and focus groups and helped influence and change the resulting application.

Southwark officers and senior members of the BL Canada Quays team continue to attend the Rotherhithe Community Council to provide development updates where appropriate.

Consultation and engagement with local residents continues to be fundamental to all decisions.

Construction Working Group

A Construction Working Group (CWG) was established in February 2008, to create a regular forum and provide information for any construction related queries that typically arise on a working site, such as footpath closures and working hours.  The CWG is made up of local councillors, key stakeholders and community representatives and is chaired by a local councillor.  The CWG feeds back to the Rotherhithe Community Council, Rotherhithe Area Housing Forum and Canada Water Consultative Forum. A construction newsletter is produced for each meeting and placed on local community notice boards.  Please click here for the latest copy.
