Invitation for Tender- Contract for main works contractor


Southwark Council intends to invite tenders from main works contractors for the construction of a new, state of the art library at Canada Water, London, SE16. Short listed applicants will be invited to participate in a single stage, selective competitive tender process.

The construction contract is estimated to be in the order of £8 million in value and to have a contract period of 18 months commencing June 2008.

We are seeking applicants who can demonstrate highly developed construction-related skills, equal to the challenges presented by this innovative, landmark building.

Timings

In order to make an Expression of Interest, an applicant will be required to complete the council's pre-qualification questionnaire, respond to initial quality submission requirements and make a submission no later than noon on Friday 14 December 2007.

Following an evaluation of applications, a tender list will be drawn up. It is intended that invitations to tender will be dispatched no later than Monday 11 February 2008.

Tenders will be evaluated on the basis of criteria to be set out in the tender documents, including quality and price.

The award of this contract is conditional on the contracting authority receiving confirmation that it has all of the funding needed to complete the construction project and, as such, there is a risk that this project may not proceed. The current position is that the contracting authority has secured a significant proportion of the funding for this construction project and is seeking to secure the remaining funding by late February 2008.

A notice was despatched to the Official Journal of the European Union on Monday 5 November 2007 in respect of this contract.
