Landscaping
The Canada Water Site A landscape masterplan has been designed to create a unique sense of place for new residents, visitors and the local community.
The landscape masterplan will include:
1 A new public green space for informal play, activities and gatherings
2 A 'green' pedestrian and cycle link, connecting Deal Porters Walk to Canada Water Underground Station
3 Stronger connections to the surrounding neighbourhoods by introducing the new residential streets of Swan Road and Clack Street
4 Communal gardens for new residents
5 New ground floor retail facilities on Surrey Quays Road
6 The provision for informal play with the use of natural play features such as timber logs and boulders, which can be used across a range of age groups
7 A series of ecological roof top gardens, including a 'sky garden' on top of the landmark building
Design workshops were held with children from Alfred Salter and Albion Primary Schools. The children got the opportunity to spend a whole day working up design ideas for the new green space on the development with the landscape architect.
Key Public Areas and Spaces
Needleman Gardens
A new public green space in the heart of the new development, providing an exciting opportunity for a range of activities, such as informal gatherings, children's play or simply relaxing with a book on a good day.
Needleman Lane
A tranquil 'green' pedestrian and cycle route connecting the
Underground Station to the new development, Deal Porters Walk and
beyond.
Swan Road & Clack Street
We are creating two new internal streets within the development; Swan Road and Clack Street. Swan Road has been designed to align with the existing Swan Road to the north to allow for future linkage, should this be an ambition of the Council. The character of the streets are small and intimate through the implementation of high quality paving and planting.
Surrey Quays Road
The proposals for the Surrey Quays Road are to enliven the street with new and exciting building facades, which will have ground floor retail uses. The streets will be lined with colourful trees, together with robust street furniture and lighting.
