Southwark Council's Planning Committee on the 1st December 2009 gave a resolution to grant planning consent on the final application for the first phase of regeneration at Canada Water.  The proposals will deliver a vibrant new town centre for Rotherhithe.  The entire scheme being developed by the council, partner British Land Canada Quays (BLCQ) and Barratt Homes also includes a stunningly-designed library, a civic plaza, shops and green space.  The mixed use scheme which includes a 26 storey residential building has been designed by Glenn Howells Architects and will consist of:

  • 668 residential units, 170 of which will be affordable units
  • A 26 storey landmark building of exemplary design
  • 10% disabled units
  • 958m2 of new retail units along Surrey Quays Road
  • New public gardens and a green route
  • 268m2 of community space
  • Public bicycle facility
