Vision
The regeneration of Canada Water is a unique opportunity to transform a historic London docklands location into a distinctive, new waterside town centre for the Rotherhithe Peninsula and adjoining areas.
Work has been underway since 2003 on extensive master planning for the first phases, including:
- A high quality public realm with a unique landscape that features historical events and celebrations in the area
- New civic spaces, including the Deal Porters Plaza
- New residential units in a mixture of styles and tenures, including affordable and private homes
- Flexible studio workshops for start-up and small businesses, and new office space
- Substantial, dedicated car parking
- Restaurants, cafés and local shopping.
Designs for a state of the art library by the Dockside have also been approved with full support from local people. Designed by Piers Gough, the building features:
- A café with plaza and waterside views
- Community performance space with seating for 150 people
- Free access to internet and computers
- Adult, young people and children's library
- Subtantially more stock than Rotherhithe Library
- Adult and family learning facilities
- Meeting rooms
- Two lifts
- Toilets and baby changing facilities on every public level
- One disabled adult changing facility
- Buggy park
